If you have read this book you will know that in the very first chapter their father is sent away for business and the children and their mother must leave the house that they live in and go to live in the country at a house called Three Chimneys. The house is near a railway station and the children spend most of their time there.
They make a lot of friends there and even prevent accidents from happening, like the big rock that fell on the railway tracks and the children waving the red flags to stop the train, and Jim (the hound in the red jersey) who had fallen in the tunnel and broken his leg then fainted.
This is not all they did, they also prevented accidents from happening down on the canal like the fire in the barge, and also helping other people like giving the lady at the post office (Mrs Ransome) a gift on her birthday, even though she hadn’t been the nicest person to them the day before.
We must not forget about their father. All the time they are doing these things their father is missing and they are trying to find out why he dose not send them letters or come home, then finally Bobbie finds out… when she goes down to the railway station to see if Perks has any magazines or books for Peter to read (because he is in bed with a bad foot) Perks raps them up in an old newspaper and on the newspaper it says “End of the Trail. Verdict. Sentence.” The name of the man who had been tried was the name of her father, Bobbie then went to her mother and showed her.
When they brought home Jim (the hound in the red jersey) their mother sent a letter to his grandfather telling him the bad news and he came at once and he trend out to be their old gentleman who waved to them from the 9:15 train and he ends up helping their farther out of prison. The day their father came home on the train was a very happy day for them all and Bobbie came to meet him at the station although she did not know, they walked to Three Chimneys together and the family is reunited and this is where the story ends.
I really enjoyed reading this book and I am sad that it has ended.
